TikTok Ban Includes CapCut
Shocked about the TikTok including CapCut

Date

The Ban on TikTok from the (U.S.) United States is official and in full effect as of Saturday, January 18th, 2025. The decision to ban the TikTok social media platform was upheld unanimously by (SCOTUS) the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS Blog).

You may have a favorite content creator or maybe you were creating content yourself on TikTok, and you are now asking yourself now what?

I do understand how this ban could be frustrating now having to decide what your new content platform(s) will be – IF TikTok was your only platform.

Keep in mind, there are several other great platforms available for you to create content.

Today, Saturday January 18th, 2025 at the time of this blog being written I had a business associate contact me with a question about a video she created in CapCut and being able to utilize Canva to resize amongst other edits. She was literally in the middle of creating a project when to our surprise she received a message that CapCut has been banned.

We had no idea, that CapCut was included with the TikTok Ban of which both are owned by the Chinese parent company ByteDance. And USA Today also advised that there is yet another app Lemon8 that is also banned as it is also owned by BytDance. The URLs to these apps have been disabled.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday unanimously upheld a federal law that will require TikTok to shut down in the United States unless its Chinese parent company can sell off the U.S. company by January 19th, 2025. In an unsigned opinion, the justices acknowledged that, “for more than 170 million Americans,” the social media giant “offers a distinct and expansive outlet for expression, means of engagement, and source of community.” But, the court concluded, “Congress has determined that divestiture is necessary to address its well-supported national security concerns regarding TikTok’s data collection practices and relationship with a foreign adversary.”(SCOTUS Blog)

This ban may be short lived or it could be permanent, it is currently unknown; however, once Trump takes office this ban could very well change. For now, look at this as a lesson, not to have only one platform for your content. Utilize more than one platform in the event a ban of this nature should occur again in the future.

We will keep watch on this ban as time will tell what the future holds for TikTok, CapCut and Lemon8.

Until next time,

MIND YOUR BUSINESS
